What crisis resources actually exist if I or someone I know needs immediate help?
Want to know what's actually available for a mental health crisis, not just general 'therapy is good' advice — real numbers/resources to have on hand.

In the US, 988 is the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline — you can call or text 988, any time, for any kind of mental health crisis, not only suicidal crisis specifically, and it's free and confidential. The Crisis Text Line is another option — text HOME to 741741 to reach a trained crisis counselor by text if a phone call feels harder. If there's an immediate, life-threatening emergency, calling 911 (or your local emergency number) or going to the nearest emergency room is appropriate, the same as any other medical emergency. Many communities also have local mobile crisis teams that can respond in person as an alternative to police for a mental health crisis specifically — it's worth looking up whether your area has one before you need it. It's genuinely fine to use these resources for yourself, not just "someone else" — reaching out early, before a situation feels like an extreme emergency, is exactly what these services are there for, and support is available if you're going through something difficult right now.
